Our Team retrieves as much decommissioned hardware as possible from the various departments of the Politecnico, albeit with some limitations.
We generally accept computers, monitors, keyboards, mice and other peripherals, working and non-working.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept material from outside the Politecnico.
The following is a list of material we may accept.
Desktop computers
In general, we accept any computer with 64-bit CPUs, namely:
- Intel Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, i3, i5, i7, Celeron dual or quad core
- AMD Athlon II, Phenom II, Athlon 64, A series, FX series
The processor series can usually be deduced from a label on the front of the case. For older processors, such as Intel Pentium 4, Centrino, and AMD Athlon XP, we evaluate on a case-by-case basis as they are often 32-bit and in fact no longer usable with modern operating systems.
If it is not possible to determine the processor, a useful indication may come from the version of Windows with which the computer was "born" (indicated on one or more labels): if it was designed for Windows Vista or 7 or later it may probably still be usable, while for XP the odds are reduced, and for 2000, NT, 98, and 95 it is usually not possible to obtain satisfactory results.
Laptops
We consider laptops with:
- 64-bit processors and not of the Atom series
- Native operating system greater than or equal to Windows Vista
It is preferable that the laptop be accompanied by the relevant power supply.
Other material
Displays: We accept screens that do not have scratches on the panel. As for non-functioning screens, often if they do not turn on completely they are repairable and therefore we accept them after evaluation, but if they turn on but the panel remains black it is usually not possible or affordable to repair them (you need model-specific spare parts, which are hard to find and expensive).
Mice and keyboards: We evaluate devices in good condition.
Network devices: We are inclined to accept switches and routers, subject to evaluation.
Printers and scanners: We no longer accept printers and scanners.
